Cordel Green is an Attorney-at-Law, a former Assistant Attorney-General of Jamaica, and the Executive Director of the Broadcasting Commission.
His other affiliations include being Member of the National AI Task Force, Jamaica; Member of the Advisory Council, Carnegie AI and Equality Initiative (AIEI), New York; Member of the IEEE P2863 Working Group on Recommended Practice for Organizational Governance of Artificial Intelligence; and Member of the IEEE P7011 Working Group – Standard for the Process of Identifying and Rating Trustworthiness of News Sources. He is also Chancellor’s Nominee on the Finance and General Purposes Committee (F&GPC) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and Chairman of the Regulatory and Technical Committee for Digital Television SwitchOver (DSO) in Jamaica.
Mr Green’s finger prints can be found on significant AI policy and governance outputs in the Caribbean and among Small Island Developing States – for example, the Caribbean AI Initiative, the Caribbean AI Policy Roadmap and report of the Jamaica National AI Task Force.
Mr Green has been appointed to the Jamaica National Commission for UNESCO. He is Vice-Chairman of UNESCO-IFAP, Paris and Chairman of the IFAP Working Group on Information Accessibility. In these capacities he conceptualized and spearheads the Artificial Intelligence for Information Accessibility (AI4IA) Annual Global Conference on 28 September to commemorate the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI). He also participated in the Intergovernmental negotiations which in November 2021 led to the UNESCO General Conference adopting the Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.
In June 2024 he was honoured by UNESCO National IFAP Committee of the Russian Federation and the Government of Ugra, as an inaugural laureate of the International Evgeny Kuzmin International Award for Contribution to Information Society Development.
Mr Green holds Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) and Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) degrees from the University of the West Indies; a Master of Laws Degree with distinction, from the University of Sheffield in England; a Master of Business Administration degree from the Mona School of Business; is an alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education Programme, and a BlockChain Council certified metaverse expert.
