Dr Tabani Moyo is the Regional Director (Southern Africa) for the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA). He serves on the International Committee that drafted an AI Charter on Media. The 33-member committee was chaired by Maria Ressa, the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. In January 2024, he was identified as one of the ten Change Makers in the past decade of digital rights in Africa by the Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa (CIPESA).
He has since been appointed Extra-Ordinary Researcher by the University of Northwest (UNW)’s Social Transformation Unit. Dr Moyo also advises governments and multilateral bodies on freedom of expression, access to information and media freedom. He sits on regional, continental, and global boards. He is a coordinating committee member of the Southern Africa Internet Governance Forum (SAIGF). He is the Vice Chairperson of the Africa Freedom of Information Centre, a pan-African network of organisations promoting access to information in Africa, based in Kampala, Uganda.
He also serves as the Convenor of the IFEX Governing Council. IFEX is a global network of more than 100 organisations defending expression based in Toronto, Canada, and the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) Steering Committee member, a global network of media development organisations based in Brussels, Belgium.
