Svitlana Mazepa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure and a former Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law at the West Ukrainian National University. She is also an international researcher at the Center of European and International Criminal Law Studies at Osnabrück University and a fellow of the Cologne-Bonn Academy.
She was awarded a research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Philipp Schwartz Initiative), where she conducted the project (2025-2027):
“The Role of Organized Cybercrime in the Context of Cyberwar: Legal, Technological, and Strategic Challenges in Combating Propaganda, Disinformation, and Cyberattacks During the Russian-Ukrainian War.”
Her academic work extends to several international projects on cybersecurity and organized crime, including successful research funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and DAAD.
She has also served as an expert and tutor for the Council of Europe, where she taught the course “AI and Human Rights” within the CoE project “Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals.”
In addition, Svitlana Mazepa is an elected Council Member of the European Law Institute (ELI) and the inaugural Chair of the ELI Ukrainian Hub.
Her professional background also includes work as a Senior Inspector at the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Ukraine and membership in the International Police Association.
She is the author of multiple scholarly articles and book chapters and has actively participated in numerous international research projects and academic exchanges.
